Sacramento, CA
The Sacramento Regional Transit District, commonly referred to as the RT, is the agency responsible for public transportation in the Sacramento, California area. It was established on April 1, 1973, as a result of the acquisition of the Sacramento Transit Authority.

The RT operates a large light rail system and connecting bus service in the Sacramento area, covering 418 square miles.

RT is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors comprised of members of the Sacramento City Council and Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. The fiscal year 2002 operating budget is $88 million, with a capital program of $127 million.
RT operates 65 bus routes and 20.6 miles of light rail in a 418 square mile service area. Service is provided 365 days a year with 36 light rail vehicles, 136 buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), and 73 diesel buses.
